The Rose & Crown is principally a 16th century building which was extended and re-fronted in the Georgian fashion - a date stone at the southern end giving the date at 1740.  For many years the Inn served as a coaching house and was also used for the Elham Petty Sessions until as late as the early 1970's when the last Licensing session was held.

It is said the man upon whom Baroness Orczy modelled her fictional hero of the French Revolution, The Scarlet Pimpernel, used to stop and dine at the Rose & Crown while he waited for a fresh horse to carry him to the coast for one of his real life dashes to France to rescue some doomed aristocrat from the guillotine; and certainly many people have stopped here to enjoy the food and the beer and, of course, the village of Elham itself, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and unspoilt in Kent.

The Rose and Crown offers a a range of fine Real Ales earning it's inclusion in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. These ales are supplemented by an extensive bar and A La Carte menu served in the lounge bar or non-smoking dining room.

The pub also has six en-suite guest bedrooms refurbished to an extremely high standard in the Stable Block.

There is a beautiful patio and lovely garden with views across the Elham Valley.
